PronSIG Exclusive 60 minute workshop: Teaching discourse intonation in the classroom

Registration is closed for this event

Join IATEFL Pronunciation SIG and Lucy Pickering for this exclusive 60 minute workshop.

Although we are in an era when there are plenty of excellent English language training books for teachers, intonation has remained what Wrembel (2007, p. 189) refers to as a “problem child” from a pedagogical perspective. Yet we cannot afford to neglect the teaching and learning of intonation in the L2 classroom if we wish to give our learners every chance of success. This presentation comprises an accessible introduction to teaching intonation effectively in the classroom. Participants will be provided with a worksheet  of practical exercises in which we cover three areas of the discourse intonation system: tone unit structure, prominence and tone choice.  No previous knowledge in this area is assumed.
