As a registered charity IATEFL actively works to make a positive impact, and support, English language teaching professionals around the world. Much of this is not possible without the kind donations to support our work. Some examples of our charitable initiatives include:
- Our Wider Membership Scheme subsidises the cost of IATEFL membership for teachers in areas of the world where membership, and other professional development opportunities, would be outside their means.
- Our IATEFL Projects scheme offers grants to teaching associations to undertake a project making an improvement to language teaching and learning in a local community, as well as giving the opportunity for less experienced teachers to take an active role.
- Our Wider Membership Individual Scheme enables individuals who live in countries where there are no current Teaching Associates to apply for membership of IATEFL for 2 years free of charge. Our aim is to ultimately help these members establish their own teaching associations so that all English language teachers in their country can enjoy the benefits of being part of a teacher association.
- Our Scholarships enable teachers, trainers and other ELT professionals the opportunity to attend, and perhaps speak at, the IATEFL Annual International Conference.
You can help IATEFL continue to achive its charitable goals in a number of ways.

Leave a gift in your will
Making a will gives you the opportunity to make sure your loved ones are provided for, and your final wishes are carried out. Before you make any decisions about your will, it is important to speak to a qualified legal adviser in your own country of residence who can give you specific, personal help and advice. Should you decide to kindly leave a gift to IATEFL as part of your will, the following wording may be appropriate to use, although we would strongly advise getting professional advice to ensure your intentions are enacted.
“I give (insert amount) to the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language, registered charity number 1090853 (England and Wales) 2-3 The Foundry, Seager Road, Faversham, ME13 7FD, United Kingdom to be applied for its general purposes. I declare that the receipt of the Chief Executive, or appropriate officer, shall be a complete discharge to my trustees.”
Gift Aid
If you are a UK taxpayer, Gift Aid can increase your gift amount by 25%, at no extra cost to you. It is easy and doesn’t cost you anything. You can do this by simply ticking the Gift Aid box when making a donation through the IATEFL website.
