MaWSIG: Embracing Diversity: Differentiation Strategies for Inclusive ELT Materials

In today's diverse language classrooms, it is essential for ELT teachers and material writers to embrace inclusion and cater to the needs of all learners. This workshop aims to empower educators with practical approaches to creating materials that accommodate varying language proficiency levels, learning styles, and cultural backgrounds. Through an exploration of differentiation techniques, participants will gain insights into adapting content, addressing learning preferences, and fostering cultural awareness. By equipping ELT
professionals with these tools, this workshop aims to aspire to cultivate inclusive and supportive learning environments that enable every student to thrive in their language acquisition journey.

Speaker - Bruno Andrade

Bruno Andrade is an ELTON Awards Winner in the Excellence in Course Innovation category for the series Our Languages (FTD, co-authored by James M. Taylor). With a strong background in the publishing field, Bruno has collaborated with major publishing houses like Pearson UK and US, Oxford UK and Brazil, and FTD by editing materials to ensure they align with the principles of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion). Currently, Bruno teaches English to middle grades at Avenues: The World School, where he has actively contributed to fostering an inclusive learning environment. His written works extensively cover topics such as bilingual education,diversity, equity, and inclusion, showcasing his passion for promoting inclusivity in educational settings.Furthermore, Bruno's pursuit of knowledge continues as he is a dedicated PhD student at UFRJ, focusing his studies on the role of race in bilingual education. Through his academic endeavors and professional accomplishments, Bruno is committed to advancing DEI principles and making a positive impact in ELT
education and beyond.
