ESPSIG: Empowering EAP Teachers as EMI Academic Developers through Multiliteracies Pedagogies
During an Erasmus Staff Week organized by the University of Crete, eight language teachers attended the program entitled "Closing the Gap for EMI Development Courses" This EMI program was designed based on Multiliteracies pedagogy and included the four aspects of LEARNING by DESIGN (Cope and Kalantzis, 2009). Through participation in activities within a reflexive pedagogy framework, participants reflected on the extent to which the Multiliteracies pedagogy model employed in the training process empowered them as EMI Academic Developers. Herein, we discuss the points of convergence between EAP, ESP, and EMI, and suggest EMI academic development processes employed by EAP teachers.
