Digital Synergy: Integrating CLT, TBLT, and Connectivism for Effective Online English Learning
The landscape of English learning is evolving. Exploring innovative ways to integrate technology and enhance language acquisition is crucial. Given the current global situation, where wars, conflicts, and a recent pandemic disrupted our lives, the need for a game changer—online classes—has become evident. This talk offers a practical approach to using the learning theory ''Connectivism'' in conjunction with Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) and a focus on communicative competence. This approach intends to address the linguistic demands of modern learners. Siemens' (2005) Connectivist learning theory provides the framework at the core of the lesson plans to be demonstrated. This combination will show how it empowers learners to effectively navigate the complexities of modern communication. The aim of this presentation is to demonstrate how we can employ these strategies in an online setting to meet the linguistic demands of learners in an ever-changing world.

AI in Teaching Writing: Balancing Benefits and Challenges in ESL Education
In this presentation, we will explore the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on teaching writing in the context of English as a Second Language (ESL) education. As AI technologies continue to evolve, they offer innovative tools that can enhance the teaching and learning process, from automated essay scoring to personalized feedback systems. However, these advancements also bring a set of challenges that educators must navigate. This session will also explore the pros and cons of integrating AI into writing instruction. We will discuss how AI can provide immediate, individualized feedback, help identify and address common writing errors, and support teachers in managing large classes. Conversely, we will also address potential drawbacks such as the risk of over-reliance on technology, the importance of maintaining human elements in teaching, and concerns about data privacy and ethical use of AI. Drawing on current research, including insights from my own studies and practical experiences, this presentation aims to provide a balanced view of AI's role in ESL writing education. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how to leverage AI tools effectively while being mindful of their limitations, ultimately fostering a more nuanced approach to technology-enhanced language teaching.
