ESPSIG - in-person PCE: 21st century skills in the ESP classroom
Join the IATEFL English for Specific Purposes Special Interest Group for their 2025 in person Pre-Conference Event on 7 April: 21st century skills in the ESP classroom
The theme of the ESPSIG 2025 Pre-conference Event, taking place on 7th April at the Annual IATEFL Conference in Edinburgh, is 21st century skills in the ESP classroom. According to UNESCO, 21st century skills encompass the knowledge, life skills, career skills, habits, and traits that are important for learner success in today's world. ESP classrooms today can no longer focus solely on language learning. They have become part of a complex, hyperconnected ecosystem where learners are preparing to cope with a world that is changing at an ever-quickening speed.
You are invited to meet teachers, practitioners and researchers from around the world, share experiences and explore trends regarding how 21st century skills impact materials, curriculum and assessment technology, teacher education, international collaboration, future directions and more. In order to achieve this aim, the 2025 PCE has an exciting new format designed to be interactive, with a combination of discussion panels, workshops and materials development sessions, as well as lightening talks. Participants will come away from the PCE with concrete materials and ideas to apply in teaching and learning contexts.
