BESIG - Building the IMAGE: Navigating Negative Feedback with Cultural Awareness

Giving negative feedback in a global business setting can be challenging, especially when cultural differences shape how the feedback is perceived. The IMAGE approach offers a practical framework for delivering feedback that is clear, constructive, and culturally sensitive. Through this interactive workshop, attendees will explore how to identify key issues, navigate cultural nuances, and create a two-way dialogue that fosters collaboration. The session will focus on:

● Providing attendees with strategies for offering solution-focused feedback with empathy and support.

● Equipping attendees with practical tips for guiding learners in handling feedback conversations confidently, improving communication, strengthening relationships, and enhancing team dynamics in diverse professional environments.

Alexandra Covell

Alexandra Covell is an experienced TESOL professional serving as the Assistant Academic Director at Michigan Language Center, USA. Her role involves teaching international business professionals, supporting multilingual learners on campus, providing day-to-day teacher support, and spearheading professional development initiatives for teachers. As President of MITESOL, she leads the Michigan affiliate of TESOL International, manages organizational operations, and co-chairs the annual conference planning. Her areas of expertise include Business English, Intercultural Communication Training, and Academic Writing. Outside of work, Alexandra enjoys exploring new recipes, traveling to different places, and spending time with her husband and their fur babies, Mocha and Mochi.
